Owl Quilt

 This card was so cute I had to photograph it. It reminds me that God is in control.

The next picture is of a quilt I made for my nephew Oliver. The backing is minkee and it has owls on it. I found the owl pattern in a magazine for a plushie and used it as an applique pattern. 

I don't know if I did this correctly, but I think I used too much steam-a-seam because it was pretty stiff. Then when I sewed it on to the quilt top, my needle was getting sticky. yikes! Well, I ended up giving this to Oliver for Christmas. I hope he likes it. Minkee is so soft!

A UFO Finally Finished!

 I finally finished this crazy quilt pillow case. I think it took me about six years to finally get it done. The part that I kind of hesitated on was deciding whether I was done embellishing it. I finally decided that I just needed to decide that I was done with it, sew it together and be done with it and I am so glad that I did. 

I go to the Farmer's Market at Windward Mall and there is a vendor who has all these exotic fruits. Some of which I have heard of, but never seen before.

This first picture is of Jaboticaba, which my mother-in-law used to talk about all the time. She used to tell us about how good Jaboticaba jam is. It's no wonder that I never heard of it or saw it. The sign says it is grown in Brazil. Wow, that jam must be expensive!

This next one is Egg Fruit, a Southeast Asian fruit. I have never seen or heard of this before. The sign says it is highly nutritous, but doesn't tell how to prepare it. According to this website, it is pureed and added to shakes and ice cream. Interesting...

 This next item is either a nut or a seed and not a fruit. I have never seen or heard of this before either...has anyone else heard of this?

This particular fruit has been displayed so that people could taste it. I unfortunately was not able to taste it because I am on an elimination diet and fruits are not on it. This website says Mamey Sapote tastes like a mix of sweet potato and pumpkin and it is used in shakes, ice creams, and smoothies.

 I'd never seen this one before either, but it sounds really yummy.

 This is another one that I've never seen or heard of before. They had a little container with grapes that had been peeled.

There were so many more exotic fruits, that I'll save them for another post, as this one is getting rather lengthy.

Totoro, Skele-Monkeys and A Puppy

I'm finally posting about this. I made this during the summer for my nephew who was born at the end or August. His parents really like Totoro, so I thought this would be cute. I found this pattern on the internet here. Normally, Totoro is gray, but I thought I would make him in baby blue and white for a little boy. Totoro came out pretty cute. 

For those of you who don't know who Totoro is, according to the Urban Dictionary, Totoro is: 

A forest spirit that is only visible to children. They are associated with Camphor trees and have the ability to play the ocarina. They hang around with Catbus.

I also made a flannel receiving blanket. I bought the fabric from Fabric Depot on a recent trip to Oregon. Loved the store and want need to go back. The fabric has skele-monkeys and it is so cute.

I'll leave you with this thought that I found on this card. It says,"Cast your cares upon the Lord and he will sustain you". I thought it was so cute, yet so true.

This and That

 These Big Bang shirts were spotted in a shop in Ward Warehouse. I didn't know they had Big Bang shirts. lol.

Mothra!

This large moth was in my room at school when I was trying to clean my room to close up for the year. He was huge! Someone told me that these are getting to be rare, but I'd rather not have them near me!

When I asked people how to get it out of my room, they told me to leave it alone. Then they would ask me if one of my relatives died recently, to which I replied, "no". I looked up the "old wive's tale" on the internet and it said the moth had to be white, so I guess it didn't apply in this case.

I did close up my room for the year... and I have no idea where it went. I also don't know if it is still in my room. I do hope he is gone when I have to go back next month.

Fabric!

 While I was in Oregon, I got to go to Fabric Depot. Wow! That store is huge! We had nothing like that here in Hawaii. They had an area outside loaded with clearance fabrics and on top of that there was a sale on their regular fabrics inside. The first two pics are of some of the fabric I purchased. I forgot to take pictures of the rest of the fabric because I shipped them home in separate flat rate boxes. I've got to go back there. I didn't get to see the whole store.

One can never have too many neutrals. I bought those fat quarters from Walmart before the trip.

Senior Art Show 2012 at Hallie Ford Museum

 My DD had her senior art show at the Hallie Ford Museum. She had 4 pieces in it about memory.  It is about how you only remember certain things.

The pieces are mounted between plexiglass to give the effect of shadows on the wall. The shadows on the wall came out blue in the photos I took.

The first piece is about how she remembered the bicentennial quarter as the drummer boy quarter, but didn't recall the words written around the quarter since she learned about the quarter before she could read.

 The next piece is about how she wished all the sand on the beach was snow.

The third piece is about how she remembered the big macs. She always thought they were huge when she was little, but now that she is all grown up, they're not that big.

Her fourth piece is a video tape about the Rugrats and Reptar, I believe it was the movie, but parts of the tape are missing.

The rest of the pictures are of some of the other pieces of at the Senior Art Show.

The one on the wall with the circles and squares was about patterns.

The clay pieces in front of them were about man's impact on the earth with automobile parts imbedded in the clay.

The next one is about endangered birds. They made paintings and paper macho' birds made out of books because e-books may cause printed books to be endangered like some species of birds.

The last two pictures are drawings about how people interact with each other. I just took pictures of them because I thought they looked like Japanese anime characters.
